In the penultimate episode of The Sopranos Season 4, titled " Eloise ", major shifts in loyalty and personal heartbreak set the stage for the explosive season finale. Key Plot Developments

While attending a wedding, Paulie greets New York boss Carmine Lupertazzi effusively, only to realize Carmine has no idea who he is. Realizing Johnny Sack has been playing him, Paulie seeks to get back into Tony’s good graces by robbing and suffocating his mother's friend, Minn Matrone, to provide a large "tribute" envelope.

After nearly pushing Tony into a helicopter rotor at a casino, Furio realizes he cannot stay and returns to Italy without a word. His sudden disappearance leaves Carmela devastated and bitter.

A juror is successfully intimidated by Eugene Pontecorvo, ensuring a more favorable outcome for Uncle Junior.

During a visit to New York, Carmela projects her internal misery onto Meadow and her roommates, sparking an argument over a queer reading of Billy Budd . This culminates in a strained birthday lunch at the Plaza Hotel.

The episode ends with a masterful juxtaposition as Tony praises Meadow's independence while Carmela, feeling completely trapped, stares into the distance as " Little Bird " by Annie Lennox plays.

The HUD scam dispute escalates as Tony trashes one of Carmine's restaurants, and Carmine retaliates by shutting down work at the Esplanade. Johnny Sack, frustrated by the financial loss, obliquely suggests to Tony that Carmine should be assassinated.
